The Departure!

We hit the road this morning at 8:25...about 25 minutes later than we intended, but who's keeping track? Since there was a monsoon in Charlotte last night, we waited till this morning to pack the car. We managed to fit everything in--camping gear, cooler, bikes, books, clothes, everything! (We will only find out in the next couple of days if we actually forgot anything meaningful.)

We had never driven with the bikes on top before on the highway and were pleasantly surprised by the symphonic-like quality of the whistling sound that Court's bike produces from the front fork at 70mph.

Our first day of driving was 562 miles straight up I-77 north through NC, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio. The Hyundai handled like a dream, naturally, and we got 26.8 mpg (which was better than what Bobby estimated, but he's rarely right about anything.) The drive went from green-and-flat to green-and-mountainous and then back to green-and flat--very exciting!

Nine hours in the car was actually pretty fun. We listened to all of Courtney's Shakira and Backstreet Boys albums, and I also got to listen to her rap with Nikki Minaj....WHAT WHAT! But that's not anything new.

Well anyway....CEDAR POINT should be awesome tomorrow! Please pray that it does not rain...or at least that The Top Thrill Dragster is still up and running!
