Planning the Route

We decided back in December 2010 that we wanted to take a big trip this summer, but we didn't know at the time just HOW big of a trip we were going to take. After tons of hours of planning, reading and talking to people we decided on our current itinerary, which you can see under the "our route" page. If we were actually cool and free spirited--or hipsters--we would've just set out and left caution and planning to the wind. But we are none of these things...hence why we drive a Hyundai.

Above is an approximate map of our route--or, as Courtney's students would say--it's a "bootleg" map of the US that I made in microsoft paint.

Some of the helpful resources we used are as follows:
Wikitravel
1,000 Places to See in the US and Canada Before You Die
www.byways.org
The Map Shop-Charlotte, NC
Fodor's Travel Guides
Bobby Samuelson's Brain (no longer in print)
Countless State Government websites
