Yellowstone Day 1

Thanks to advice from Mr. Sande,  Court and I took the Beartooth highway (M-212) through the Beartooth Mountains and into the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone. The Drive was mind-blowingly awesome.
Check out these photos:

Entering the highway through Red Lodge, MT

Stopping for a scenic picture BEFORE Court got car sick and had to cover her head with pillows.....

You can only get the best pictures on the back of a Hyundai. Yeah, baby!

About halfway up the mountain

Hyundai commercial.....HUH, HUH!???

So there was TONS of snow at the top, and I could not resist. It was really cold.

A very nice family from Texas offered to take our picture...after I asked them to.

SNOW and MOUNTAINS

Northeast entrance to Yellowstone
So, after a long drive straight up....and then back down a mountain, we finally arrived at Yellowstone. From the Northeast entrance, we headed south through the park to Lake Lodge, where we would be staying for the first night.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAM! Welcome to the most beautiful place ever.........

Court was diggin' the Bison! (Courtney is obsessed with animals, as you will come to realize.)

The bison were really cool, and they kill more people in the park every year than any other animal.
(Two totally unrelated statements.)

Doesn't get much prettier......This is the view on the drive to Lake Lodge.

TONS of Bison. And they have absolutely no fear of people.

Our First Hot Spring
So, as it turns out, Yellowstone is actually a massive volcano that hasn't erupted in several hundred thousand years. We had our fingers crossed for another one while we were! Wouldn't that be a story!

Thermal springs smell GREAT! And by "great," I mean they smell like straight sulfur.....which is essentially what they are.

The Lake Lodge
This place had a kickin' cafeteria. Court and I had some really tasty pot roast here on our first night.....

Home sweet cabin

The water heater was just for decoration

My favorite thing about the cabin was the BEAR SOAP! Who gets bear soap???? We did.
Our first day was awesome. After dinner we went to a Ranger show on the History of Wolves in Yellowstone. It was very informative, and we even thought about becoming junior rangers for our stay.....but we didn't because you have to be under 12.
